WT medium and heavy duty grinding machines have a cross-bed arrangement, which optimizes the machine's footprint. The main machine groups, such as the wheelhead, workhead, and tailstock, are designed for grinding components weighing up to 15 tons and 10,000 mm long. For swinging components of large diameters, a gap bed option is available. The machine base and subassemblies are made of stabilized pearlitic cast iron. WT grinders can be equipped with a wide range of wheelhead configurations: straight, angular, and B-axis driven by an integrated torque motor. Wheels are mounted on spindles with hydrostatic bearings, roller bearings, or on electrically driven spindles designed by DANOBAT. Depending on the application, corundum, CBN, or diamond wheels can be used. To achieve maximum machine performance, WT machines can be equipped with in-process measuring systems, automatic wheel balancing system including gap and plunge, axial positioning system, and taper correction system, etc.
